Marine Electrical Systems Engineer - Bristol - 6 mth contract - £Negotiable

Position based at Bristol Site
There is a requirement to oversee and undertake marine systems related Specialist Studies and design work projected from the Assessment Phase of the T26 GCS. The role involves marine engineering technical design work, including the conduct and management of specific design studies, scoping out work items, reporting results and liaison with industry and MOD specialist technology areas.
The initial requirement is to undertake the marine engineering studies required to support the development of the costed T26 GCS design. These include; power & propulsion, and electrical system including systems supporting the electric drive.
There will be a need to regularly travel to Scotstoun site to support the T26 GCS Approval Authority, as specified within the T26 GCS Design Management Arrangements.
At a later point in the Assessment Phase programme this resource will cease to support the Technical Authority and will be directly tasked by the MOD Design Approval Authorities in support of approving the design decisions.
Throughout the contract line management responsibilities will remain with the parent company.
ACTIVITIES TO BE UNDERTAKEN
Produce a summary report of approved delegated design decisions that affect performance and cost in accordance with the T26 GCS design management arrangements.
Conduct reviews of the electrical load (EL) and power generation calculations in order to provide assurance to the Marine Systems Approval Authority (MSAA) and inform the cost model.
Identify safety risks, technical risks and mitigation actions for marine systems in support of ALARP statements.
Interface with the Combat System Approval Authority (CSAA) to determine the EL requirements and provision.
Represent the MSAA on the cable working group and provide technical reports to inform the cost model and risk register.
Support the generation of requests for information/quotations for marine systems.
Technically assess all supplier responses to requests for information/quotations.
Provide timely and appropriate input data for marine systems to the T26 GCS TLMP.

To take a proactive approach in the development and implementation of quality assurance to meet business, customer and regulatory needs.
Key duties:

Qualifications and experience:
- HNC or equivalent in engineering, probably mechanical, electronic/electrical.
- Proven experience in a QA role with extensive experience in an engineering-related role within the aerospace or similar industries.

Secondary Purpose
To assist in the development of systems engineering processes and thinking throughout the company.
Qualifications/Experience:
Essential -
Engineering degree or equivalent, preferably with a mechanical bias.
Good understanding of Electro-mechanical and/or Hydro-mechanical actuation systems.
High level of competence with Microsoft Office Tools.
Good communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with customers and other stakeholders.
Desirable -
Experience of working in a systems engineering environment, including structured requirements analysis and decomposition in a multi-disciplined environment.
Experience in specification, design, verification and/or manufacture of control and actuation equipment in a defence or aerospace environment.
Understanding of :-
• Performance modelling and analysis.
• Software development, its life cycle and the associated problems and opportunities it presents.
• Electrical and/or electronic hardware, including digital signal processing and associated digital and analogue hardware.
• Aerospace or Defence standards and working practices, specifically those associated with aircraft certification.
Experience within a multi-disciplinary team developing complex, safety-critical systems.
Experience in using DOORS requirements management package.
Outline of Job Requirements:
Principal Tasks
• To undertake system engineering tasks under the direction of senior engineers in projects involving mechanical, electronic and software engineering to produce systems designs of high integrity.
• To support the capture of stakeholder requirements through direct communication and interpretation of technical documentation.
• To assist in the development of candidate architectures and cost/capability trade studies to determine the optimum solution to meet stakeholder requirements.
• To create sub-system design and interface requirements which decompose the customer’s requirements from the system level specification.
• Where appropriate, to create requirements for sub-contracts which reflect customer and internal company requirements.
• Undertake design and requirement validation activities as directed by senior engineers to ensure structured, efficient and effective risk management and mitigation.
