Reliability Engineer - County Durham - Circa £35,000

£30000 to £35000 per annum
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Support Emission Solutions reliability and quality improvement activities.
• Support teams and reliability leaders with reliability assessments using the latest tools and methods.
• Support/Train reliability team members regarding proper use of tools.
• Provide reliability input to different aspects of new product introduction i.e. design review, DVP&R.
• Provide reliability support to cross functional teams to resolve current product/VPI issues in order to quantify magnitude of problem and verify resolution effectiveness.
• Document and present outcomes of work – content would include technical findings as well as lessons learned about processes and procedures.
• Provide analysis of current product reliability to engineering groups to support new product development.
• Provide reliability support/input to 6-Sigma project teams.
• Active participant in part analysis/problem identification processes.
• Manage Warranty Data and identify projects to reduce warranty.
• Lead Level IV PQC and report to EBU PQC’s as required.
SKILLS - FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL:
• BS/MS in Engineering
• User level and willing to become a specialist in warranty data and statistical analyses
• User level in 6-Sigma (DFSS/DMAIC) processes/tools
• Functional knowledge of VPI and/or product development processes
• Functional knowledge of problem solving techniques – Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), 7 Step.
SKILLS - QUALITY/IMPROVEMENT:
• Institute statistical practices in areas previously lacking such methods
• Continue to support areas where methods are already well established
• Ability to research new methods and adapt or apply the techniques for new applications
• Ability to assess training needs and ability to provide statistical training

Our client was established over 25 years ago and is the market leader in the field of electrical safety test instrumentation.

QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING: define the level of education and examination standard that the job requires, including professional and technical qualifications.
1. A minimum of a BSC in electrical or electronic engineering preferably with a MSC or PHD.
2. It is likely that the person will be a chartered engineer of the IET or an equivalent status with an alternative international body.
3. Previous employment will have equipped the Manager with general management training possibly an MBA and they should have a sound understanding of quality systems and in particular ISO 9000.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Extensive experience of managing product development in an electrical/electronic industry. They must have demonstrated success in managing multiple projects with cross functional teams and delivering on time and on budget results.
2. Previous experience should have exposed the Manager to commercial aspects associated with competitive industry and demanding customers where the provision of new products and engineering support has been a vital part of the Company’s operation.
3. Experience in ISO 9000 from both a manufacturing and design position.
4. Have operated at a senior level possibly at Board level within an associated industry.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
1. The person must be firstly a good all round engineer capable of leading a team of engineers and commanding their respect by setting standards equivalent to the best in class.
2. Knowledge of modern management thinking particularly when it is applied to product development is important. Knowledge of different design environments and the ability to balance by or make decisions to ensure optimum quality and competitiveness in the product development environment.
3. Experience of standards making bodies, government organisations and the ability to become conversant with a statutory requirements of a particular industry are important requirements.
