Manufacturing Technician - Manchester - Circa £25,000 - 6 mth contract initially
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Provide engineering support to the Head and Systems Production departments. Proactively participate in new product design / product introduction. Support and improve product and process quality. Develop and deliver cost saving and lead time reduction initiatives.
Contract
£20000 to £25000 per annum
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
§ Plan and organise own daily & weekly workload to ensure delivery of weekly production targets and longer-term strategic business objectives.
§ Support the Manufacturing Engineers.
§ Maintain and organise the Engineering Laboratory.
§ Develop and maintain accurate bills of materials.
§ Implement cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety, reliability and throughput.
§ Test and evaluate theoretical designs and process changes.
§ Discuss and solve complex problems with manufacturing departments, sub-contractors, suppliers and customers.
§ Generate and update work instructions and effectively communicate out to Production.
§ Provide technical assistance to MO’s and internal departments.
§ Update and amend engineering design drawings using 2D software package.
§ Implement product test and validation and document in the EngDoc system.
§ Implement CCNs accurately within required timescales.
§ Contribute to new product design, reducing costs and lead times by investigating and implementing new process techniques and manufacturing processes.
§ Investigate customer quality concerns ensuring that timely and effective corrective measures are implemented.
§ Responsible for COSHH, ensuring current material safety data is available, up-to-date and accessible, and that safe working processes are in place.
§ Responsible for carrying out risk assessments and advising safe methods of work.
§ Participate in and recommend continuous improvement activities.
§ Liaise with other departments to efficiently and effectively resolve problems.
§ Ensure safety, health and environment is inherent in all projects.
§ Promote, improve and maintain appropriate quality systems.
§ Identify own training needs and communicate these through to the Engineering manager.
Essential Experience:
• HNC qualification in Mechanical or Production Engineering related discipline.
• Significant commercial experience in manufacturing/production/industrial engineering within a low or medium volume production environment.
• Experienced in manufacturing assembly and fabrication.
• Experienced in process improvement and value engineering.
• Experienced in developing work instructions/SOPs.
• Experienced in implementing initiatives to reduce costs and increase quality levels.
• IT literate (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and the ability to read engineering drawings.
• Strong influencing skills.
• Ability to communicate at all levels of a business.
• Able to quickly gain credibility and respect – both internally and externally with suppliers and subcontractors.
• Able to work under pressure and to deadlines.

2 Support the development of new and existing products by providing the necessary information as required.
3 Support the trial process as required to ensure the timely launch of products.
4 Understand the wants and needs of both internal and external customers and support delivery of our commitments.
5 Present facts and ideas clearly and accurately to customers.
6 Ensure an overall awareness of comparative products from all major retailers.
7 Plan, organise and control resources to support the delivery of concepts and launches to an agreed quality and timescale.
8 Monitors product quality of new and existing products for the customers that they are responsible for through weekly benchmarking. Responsible for collecting samples from store.
9 Assist Development Chefs where necessary in assembling samples for submission to customers, hosting customer activities and any other activities as required within the department.
