Main Scope of Role
The role of the site project manager has a Mechanical bias and will meet three primary objectives:-
Be accountable for the design requirements for project work including; the specifications and scoping of works, review of technical solutions and drawings and the management of mechanical engineering works. This will include mechanical plant comprising of scroll, conveyor belts and elevators; pipe systems, pumps and tanks/vessels and process plant and equipment related to the production of sugar and sugar related processes.
To ensure that Wissington continues to provide a high quality of project deliverance, with an emphasis on safety, robust engineering solutions whilst controlling the agreed budget.
Projects are to be delivered to the agreed / required time, complying with the requirements of the Capital and Business management System.
The project team consists of 2 project engineers (1 mechanical and 1 electrical), 1 full time project design draughtsman, supplemented with contract draughting services as required and an administrator. Development plans for the project team will include a process / chemical engineer in the medium term.
The projects are varied and diverse, covering process improvements (mechanical handling plant; filter presses, fluid dynamic systems, heat transfer / recovery systems, screening plant, warehousing, specialist sugar industry plant), storage tanks, pipework system, civil and structural works, electrical upgrade works,
Project values range from £50K up to £4,000K, with occasional individual project values of up to £10,000K. The average value of the projects is circa £8.5m per annum.
Key Result Areas
Provide through direct involvement robust, well engineered solutions to meet the required investment criteria.
Responsible for the development and delivery of projects from conception through to completion; inc compilation of specifications / data sheets / performance criteria; conceptual design, lead engineering draughtspersons, contract negotiations inc payment profiles and foreign exchange conversions; expediting of orders, adherence to quality / performance standards and compliance to British Sugar procedures.
Complete CE Conformity, PUWER assessments and Technical Files.
Provide summary reports as requested to various groups.
Liaison with planning departments, local authorities and external bodies.
Safety lead initiatives to promote high safety awareness leading to no LTI’s.
Communications with experts to gather and share operational and engineering best practice
Liaison with procurement professionals to ensure an integrated approach to equipment purchase.
Large maintenance tasks that require significant contract resource
Represent site on the corporate Project Review Group.
Manage the corporate capital system.
Prioritisation of works during pressurised work periods, including flexible working.
Management of Personnel.
Management of contractors.
Management of various other activities currently under the control of the project team.
Knowledge - Skills & Experience Required
The successful candidate must have:-
Proven experience in site based Mechanical Engineering and installation / construction works.
Sound knowledge of mechanical engineering principles in pumped system and mechanical handling.
A recognised safety qualification such as NEBOSH, preferably NEBOSH Construction and a thorough knowledge of safety systems
Previous experience of Project Management of multiple capital investments in a heavy engineering environment, delivering projects to time, safely and to budget.
A thorough working knowledge of the law relating to project work.
Good planning and organisational skills & competent in the use Microsoft Project.
Knowledge of gateway processes would be an advantage.
Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities.
Sugar industry experience would be preferable, but not essential.
Development of commissioning plans for new plant installations.
Experience in the development of maintenance plans for new plant installations.
