Job Purpose:
To coordinate and execute engineering tasks, or packages of work, and to provide guidance and advice in a consistent professional manner within the discipline, taking cognisance of appropriate budget, timescale and quality standards, providing leadership where required.
Key Functions of Job:
To concurrently design and specify cost-effective components and systems for our product range from concept through field.
To coordinate engineering resources to complete projects, including delegation of tasks where appropriate.
To track the progress of projects, ensuring that agreed targets are achievable and that these targets are satisfied.
To maintain accurate records to show compliance of the design with mandatory legislation, technical specifications and suppliers installation requirements.
To accurately document and maintain product design through detailed drawings, schematics and bills of material.
To lead or assist in the resolution of production, service, and quality problems.
To lead or assist in the introduction of new technologies that maintains a competitive edge to the product range.
Qualifications and Training:
Minimum degree level in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Experience in commercial vehicle design or development.
Proven understanding of the use of CAE tools, specifically 2D and 3D.
Solid comprehension of mechanical reasoning, physics, metalworking and plastics.
Aptitude for analyzing and solving design problems.
Computer literacy and experience in Microsoft Office applications, in particular Word and Excel.
Excellent verbal and written communications to internal and external customers, organizational skills, and problem solving.
Good written & verbal skills.
Ability to deal with problems quickly and effectively.
Demonstrate a high level of accuracy & attention to detail.
Good professional demeanour and appearance.

Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer
To ensure all suppliers are assessed, continuously developed and their products / services comply with engineering specifications and quality standards. To improve customer satisfaction by ensuring that concerns are recognised, investigated and resolved in a timely manner.
Continual development and evaluation of chassis suppliers / services.
Assessment of new suppliers for their ability to delivery consistent product quality to engineering specifications.
New Product Development support.
Internal / External Quality Audits to BS EN ISO 9001:2008.
Identification, investigation and resolution of problems as required from any areas of the business.
Assist in implementation of chassis plant retrofit / campaign programmes.
Resolution of supplier type problems via the Q-pulse/Customer Concerns system.
Manufacturing Engineer
§ Recommend and implement process improvements, which lead to cost reduction and increased production efficiency.
§ Recommend product improvements, which lead to lower cost and/or weight; implement through the Man Eng team those changes, which do not affect design and specification.
§ Prepare detailed cost justifications.
§ Plan and control the effectivity and implementation of product and process improvements.
§ Promote continuous improvement.
§ Define best practice processes, which lead to increased productive efficiency, waste reduction and improved quality.
§ Ensure all records are produced and maintained to a high standard, which as a minimum must conform to ISO 9001.
§ Define the required methods and instructions to ensure that products are built using the defined process and to the agreed specifications.
§ Effective communication and implementation of build / process changes to production personnel.
§ Effective control and introduction of design engineering changes & ACNs.
§ Raising of ECRs to improve assembly methods, build times, resolution of problems etc.
§ Validation of BOMs & work centre maintenance.
§ Creation and continual update of Manufacturing Instructions.
§ Requisition and maintenance of specialist production tools and equipment including assembly operator training where required.
§ Accurate recording and evaluation of build / process times (via shop floor data collection process) with the objective to increase labour efficiency and productivity (including training).
§ Supplier installation assembly process compliance.
§ Problem solving & investigations including those related to customer concerns.
§ Ensure safe system of work in accordance with risk assessments and method statements.
Maintenance Lead Engineer
Ensuring the functionality of the building and premises by preventative planned maintenance.
Ensuring the minimum of disruption due to failure of services and plant.
§ Leading and supervision of a small team.
§ Directing and planning essential central services such as security, mail, maintenance, archiving, cleaning, catering, waste disposal and recycling.
§ Directing and implementation of planned maintenance to building, premises, equipment and machinery.
§ Responding appropriately to emergencies or urgent issues as they arise including out of hours call outs.
§ Monitor facilities related spending against budget and forecast.
§ Calculating and comparing costs for required goods or services to achieve maximum value for money.
§ Procurement of reputable and responsible sub contractors and external services.
§ Project management and supervising and co-ordinating work of contractors.
§ Checking that agreed work by staff or contractors has been completed satisfactorily and following up on any deficiencies.
§ Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and that building and premises meets health and safety requirements in all aspects.
§ Planning best allocation and utilisation of space and resources for re-organising of current building and premises;
§ Review facilities supplier and contract agreements and commercial terms and conditions.
§ Attend weekly facilities update meetings.
§ Responsible for department administration, health & safety and maintenance document control, planned preventative.
