PRODUCTION PLANNER

To globally plan materials under their control (including purchased finished goods from third party suppliers) to minimise inventory and scrap whilst maximising product availability. Responsibilities include forecasting, production planning, capacity planning, inventory balancing, reorder point planning, inventory positioning, product allocation and product availability. Provides relevant information concerning movement of items to internal and external customers. Decisions and errors impact operations in stores, quality control, work-in-progress, excess and obsolete inventory and the availability of finished goods.
Degree or equivalent in Business/Purchasing/Science subjects or related subjects. An equivalent demonstrated and developed knowledge in industry may be considered as an alternative. A working knowledge of World Class manufacturing principles coupled with strong interpersonal, motivational, communication (written and oral) and organisational skills.
'Get-up and Go' attitude to completing and ensuring the completion of all tasks.
SAP experience desirable.

Purchasing Manager
Report into Strategic Purchasing Manager
Responsible for 1 Purchasing Assistant
Purpose of the job:
To lead the purchasing activities including purchasing of materials, manufacturing and services for with due regard to price, specification, quality and OTIF delivery to meet the business strategy needs.
Environment/Context:
" Cost reduction is key to its long term success, the job holder is fundamental to achieving this.
" The supply chains dealt with are truly international and span across Europe, Asia and N America and are subject to highly volatile international markets and exchange rate fluctuation.
" Low Cost Economy sourcing is key to the competitiveness of the business. There is already a network of steel fabricators in China and a copper fabricator in Thailand. The job holder must be both politically and commercially astute, able to deal with these diverse cultural and purchasing environments with strong influencing and negotiating skills.
" A significant level of independent overseas travel is expected (>30 days per annum)
" The job holder will be operating independently in locations remote from Cheshire and in difficult market conditions. Failure to deliver under these circumstances will leave the business unable to deliver its contractual commitments or could leave the business vulnerable to significant losses.
" Division/product is early in its product life cycle, product development is still active and its supply chain is evolving, this gives significant opportunity cost savings that need to be delivered.
" Business is based on supply of capital equipment and then on-going sale of a wide range of products and services - most of a highly technical nature. The job holder will require a sound understanding of the products, constituent parts, materials of construction and methods of manufacture. The job holder will have a technical (ideally engineering) background as well as being a purchasing professional.
" The contracts for the required materials and services are complex and often of a technical nature. The job holder must be able to understand and develop these agreements and ensure that they maximise the benefit to the business.
Accountabilities of the job:
1. Identify and deliver purchasing cost reduction and supply chain improvement targets.
2. Support Strategic Purchasing Manager in development and implementation of the Purchasing Strategy in line with the business strategy. Identify longer-term opportunities and risks for the business and take the necessary steps to deliver or mitigate these.
3. Negotiate technically and commercially strategic supply contracts ensuring delivery of purchased material, manufacturing and services to cost, quality, specification and OTIF delivery requirements.
4. Manage the dynamic relationship between long lead-time raw materials (2 years) and short-term requirements for individual projects and the technical evolution.
5. To implement purchasing process improvement and best practice, including minimising working capital, lead time, costs and risk, etc. whilst improving supplier performance (OTIF, quality, flexibility, reliability) and payment terms. Ensure that the purchasing processes are legal, meet competition law requirements and adhere to the appropriate SHE standards.
6. To lead, monitor, motivate and develop the professional skills of the Purchasing Assistant to ensure clarity and consistency of purpose, clear objectives and targets and a culture of achievement and continuous personal improvement.
7. Play a key role in the product development process, by gauging the viability of developments in terms of purchase and supply and then establishing new supply routes.
Required profile:
The job holder will be highly numerate with excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills. The job holder will be educated to degree level ideally with an engineering or science based degree.
Technical skills
The job holder will have proven experience of international purchasing and should have at least 6 years experience in a purchasing role.
The job holder will ideally hold a CIPS (Chartered Institute of Purchase and Supply) qualification.
Behavioural skills
The job holder must display the full range on management competencies (Including: Results orientation, Interpersonal Awareness, Concern for Impact, Critical Information Seeking, Tenacity, Initiative) and in particular must be a skilled negotiator able to operating autonomously in remote locations.

Accountabilities of the job:
Administer a portfolio of suppliers to deliver items and services on time in full to cost and meeting quality requirements. Manage any issues that arise during the course of supply.
Most Important Activities:
" Check daily Material Requisitions Plan (MRP) in Purchasing System and convert to purchase orders, negotiating best commercial deal with suppliers, all low value requisitions generated by R&T and Engineering Departments.
" Co-ordinate transport requirements with Preferred Suppliers.
" Co-ordinate the office products and consumables purchases across the various sites to ensure compliance to Group standards and work with purchasing contacts in other Group businesses to leverage spend.
" Monitor spend and receive in for payment invoices for Fork Lift Trucks and leased Vans.
" Monitor usage of photocopiers, ensuring timely fix of copier breakdowns, ordering of toners and other copier consumables.
Co-ordinate the logistics of raw materials and manufactured products through the supply chain.
Most Important Activities:
" Raise purchase orders and other necessary paperwork for meshing and heat treatment suppliers, managing the timely transfer of stock through the supply chain in the Planning System to achieve customer OTIF.
" Provide forecasts to mesh and stress relieving suppliers in order to secure capacity and ensure timely processing.
" Report KPIs to management.
Manage the Agency Recruitment Database.
Most Important Activities:
" Place purchase orders, checking contractor time sheets and expense claims and receiving these to enable payment.
" Ensure that Agency Worker start dates are recorded accurately in the database to enable the business to comply with current legislation.
" Report contractor hours and other statistics to the Board.
Administer pan database and pan refurbishment invoicing
Most Important Activities:
" Administer the pan database, auditing the data to ensure various suppliers are providing complete and correct raw material traceability data.
" Collate Inward Processing Relief records for Customer Services Manager.
" Check refurbishment invoices to ensure correct prices and quantities are being charged by suppliers.
Manage quality assurance documentation for purchased raw materials
Most Important Activities:
" Collate supplier raw materials QA documents, check for completeness and pass to the relevant engineer for review and approval before issuing into the supply chain.
" File documents to allow easy retrieval in future.
" Report any non-conformance to purchasing specifications via the Complaints Database.
" Administer Purchasing Specifications database, ensuring supplier acknowledgement and acceptance of latest revision Purchasing Specifications and archive obsolete specifications.
Keep purchasing processes fully up-to-date and compliance to CIPS and ISO 9000 QA standards
Most Important Activities:
" Process New Supplier Set-Up Request from buyers, gathering necessary data for approval by the Strategic Purchasing Manager.
" Administer Approved Supplier Database, collecting the necessary data and certificates and facilitate Supplier Audits to meet the requirements of the Supplier Approval procedures.
" Monitor and measure Supplier KPIs and report Supplier League Table monthly to S&OP management.
" Administer yearly Supplier Awards.
" Be the champion for the supplier approval process, encouraging the adoption of Best Practice in accordance with CIPS guidelines.
Required profile:
Level of education & Experience in general
The job holder must be numerate, display good communication skills and be a team player. The job holder will be educated to a minimum of A level or HND (engineering or science based discipline desirable but not essential).
Technical skills
The job holder will have:
" strong IT skills and a competent user of Microsoft excel.
" 1-2 years experience in a commercial business role ideally in engineering purchase and supply (eg automotive or aerospace).
Alternatively the job holder could be a new graduate recruit who is interested in exploring supply chain or purchasing career options.
