ROLE PROFILE
Purchasing Manager - External Manufacturing
Reports to: Purchasing Director - External Manufacturing
SUMMARY
Primary role is to manage national and International Co-packers. The position acts in co-ordination with Global Purchasing team, European Lead-buying for Global Supply Partners and independently for Europe source of supply including vendor development and negotiations. The position is also responsible for managing high profile projects to support new product launches, cost reduction programs and management of net working capital.
SCOPE / DIMENSIONS OF ROLE
Independent responsibility for development of purchasing strategy, budget creation and its execution.
Direct reports consisting of external manufacturing buyers and planners with portfolio responsibility from 10 to 30 M£.
The individual needs to be the business partner for key internal stakeholders from marketing, supply services, R&D, Quality and Finance.
RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES
" Manage development and implementation of strategic sourcing and procurement processes for a defined portfolio of International and Local contract manufacturers (co-packers)
" Support Vendor Development initiatives for launch of major new products and projects in conjunction with Global and Local buyers, packaging engineering, planning cell, marketing and R&D.
" Project management of new products to be sourced in time and without issue to meet launch deadlines.
" Consistently benchmarks key pricing points (labor, yield, raw and pack materials) and provides analytical support derived from operational, technical and financial inputs to identify leverage points for negotiations.
" Development and analysis of P&L costings for new products.
" Contract Negotiation and Development, including development of local contracts.
" Gross margin improvement analysis and implementation. Leads and aggressively drives cost saving initiatives. Develops and implements significant product cost reductions both through squeeze (cost out) efforts and manufacturing process improvements (xtrim).
" Monitor realization of cost savings and ensures price changes are reconciled in the purchasing/accounting systems.
" Achieve optimum cost while ensuring high level of quality/service and the respect of delivery targets.
" Development of price forecasts for key market drivers.
" Interaction with Local and Global commodity/feedstock buyers.
" Leads external manufacturing planner towards achievement of excellent customer service through timely production of high quality products at the optimal MOQ and distributed on time to the appropriate distribution center.
" Performs monthly Purchase price variance analysis and implements action plans to identify mitigating actions.
" Develop in-depth knowledge of key material markets and external suppliers and cost infrastructure.

Drive change within organisation through influencing senior management and internal stakeholders.
Playing the role of plant manager being accountable for cost, service, quality and liabilities at external parties.
Total Cost Ownership for externally manufactured products.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE
" Must have 5 to 7 years of professional experience.
" A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible managerial assignments in Consumer Products, Food, Personal Care or Pharmaceutical business.
" Must have a BAs degree in engineering, business, or other appropriate field, ideally with a specialty in Purchasing or Supply chain management.
" Positive track record in negotiation and cost reduction projects with Local and International vendors.
" Technical project management skills.
" Demonstrated success of completing business improvement projects such as cost reductions and business simplification processes.
" Ability to achieve success in a team based environment.
" Structured, detail oriented and analytical.
" Solution- and results-oriented.
" Able to effectively communicate and to influence internal budget owners, peers, senior management and suppliers.
" Strong negotiation skills.
" Demonstrated track record in negotiation and cost reduction projects.
" Ideally previous exposure working in a broad-based Multi-national company and-or environment.

Large independent retailer, with nationwide superstores, mail order operation and internet sales re looking for an experienced Supply Chain or Category Manager.
You will currently be either a Supply Chain Manager, Merchandiser, Merchandise Manager, Category Manager or similar.
Reporting directly to the General Manager you will manage the Supply Chain team currently consisting of 7 people.
You will be responsible for managing and developing the supply chain function to maintain optimum product profiles. You will manage the implementation, availability and stock levels of around 5,000 skus and liaise with the Purchasing Department to predict future demand. You will also need to identify opportunities within the stock cycle to improve processes and timescales while ensuring the correct controls are in place.
You should be highly experienced in motivating, managing and building the performance of a Supply Chain team. Experience in a Supply Chain/Stock Control position is essential and ideally you will have experience of working in a FMCG or Retail environment. You should have a keen attention to detail, with a good working PC knowledge including Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of our product range or a passion for DIY though not essential will be desirable.
