ROLE: Purchasing Platform Buyer
REPORTS TO: Divisional Purchasing Manager
Permanent
£35000 to £39000 per annum
Main Purpose
Co-ordinate the Purchasing, Divisional and Supplier activity aimed at introducing new Projects with the Quality, Cost and Delivery requirements specified in the new product introduction process.
Relationships
Internal : Group Purchasing Manager, Divisional Purchase Managers, Material Controllers, Engineering Managers, Divisional Quality Managers
External: Suppliers, Independent test houses
KEY RESULT AREAS
Quality
Involvements in Simultaneous Engineering activity on all new projects with the Division to ensure all relevant Purchasing New Product Introduction milestones are achieved.
Cost
Facilitate pre Job 1 VA/VE activity with suppliers and engineering to ensure design for cost focus for all components.
Cost tracking to ensure suppliers, designers and buyers are focused on achieving the cost targets set for each project.
Support relevant buyers in supplier negotiations for the component production price and production tooling cost.
Innovation
Champion relevant supplier co-design process within multifunctional team.
Ensure early involvement of the supply base in the New Product Introduction Process and that the correct suppliers are selected using Group Buyer commodity strategy. There must be a particular focus upon the opportunities to source to low cost countries.
Act as a representative of Group Purchasing within the Division and implement Group Purchasing strategy where applicable.
Delivery
Ensure and measure supplier achievement of ISIR sign off.
Management
Manage the interface between Purchasing, the suppliers and the Division for each new project to ensure successful communication of objectives, timing, cost target etc.
To be responsible for co-ordinating new model nominations with strategic buyers and divisional buyers where appropriate.

Cost Tracking Tools
VA/VE
Negotiation techniques

Quality systems (eg QS 9000) and supplier development (APQP)

The Buyer is responsible for supplier performance with respect to their Quality, Cost, Delivery, Innovation and Management.
Main Purpose
The Strategic Buyer is responsible for nominating supply sources and raising the initial order.
The role is focussed upon the planning and execution of global commodity strategies that maximise the opportunities available to a company that manufactures in low cost countries. The commodities under the control of the Strategic Buyer are high value, used commonly throughout the business and tend to be engineered by the supplier.
The Strategic buyer specifies to the Divisional buyer and Business Units the strategic source for goods and services in order to ensure a consistent approach that maximises spending power.
Key Result Area
To be responsible for new parts first off availability and Initial Sample Inspection Report compliance within the NPI process requirement.
Ensure that the QCDIM (Quality Cost Delivery, Innovation, Management) performance data is communicated and reviewed together with the supplier.
Ensure Warranty agreements are in place where required prior to placing an order or LTA. (Long Term Agreement)
Report QCDIM status. This includes inputting data to update the monthly Green report (Cost down report)
To control and lead the Groups contract negotiations taking responsibility for part price negotiation and cost target fulfilment.
Increase the value year on year of direct materials sourced Internationally with LCC (Low Cost Country) suppliers in line with the requirements of the 3 year plan.
Manage the implementation of VA/VE (Value Analysis/Value Engineering) cost saving projects.
To be responsible to support Production Control/Material Planning in resolving supplier problems without becoming chief expeditor.
To be responsible to ensure that overall supplier capacity is available for future volumes.
Liaise with the relevant buyer to ensure no conflict exists with availability and that the Divisions are not competing for the same capacity.
To be responsible for driving innovation from existing and new sources of supply and to be the conduit to International Purchasing Offices Worldwide. The Strategic Buyer should be the main contact with the International Offices.
Plan, organise and direct appropriate resources to achieve the VFM (Value For Money) and International cost saving budget.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
Graduate calibre, preferably CIPS qualified.
2/3 years experience in a multi-site, multi-national company.
Track record of managing supplier QCIDM performance.
Previous multi-site purchasing role.
Negotiation- preparation, planning & execution.
Cost Breakdown- key elements of cost build-up.
Value analysis/Value Engineering implementation.
Supplier/shop planning and capacity analysis.

Main Purpose
This role is focussed upon providing a Division specific Purchasing service for Divisional controlled components.
The Divisional buyer takes immediate direction from the Business Unit within a structure provided by Group Purchasing, i.e. buy what the Division specifies from whom the commodity strategy specifies.
Key Result Area
To be specifically responsible for sourcing Divisional controlled components. It must be demonstrated that International sources have been considered prior to nomination.
